Star Leader is an unfinished project by TalonSoft, known primarily from the Battleground and Age of Sail series. According to Baltimore developers, the game was supposed to be a response to such titles as Starship Troopers or StarCraft.
Action Star Leader was set in the distant future. Technological progress has allowed mankind to colonize a large part of the Cosmos. The SOL 3 Empire expands into distant corners of the Universe, exposing itself to attacks from foreign races. The player plays the role of the commander of the elite unit of space marines, which is to protect colonizers.
The main campaign in the game was to offer about 20 missions intended for solo play. As a supplement, developers also planned a fully functional multiplayer mode, which allows up to 12 players to have fun together via LAN or the Internet. According to the developers’ assumptions, the game would be a combination of solutions typical for real time strategy (RTS) with elements of the action game and cRPG. The player would command units with different combat parameters, and as the game progressed, he would gain experience and develop his skills.
The game was created on the basis of a new, original Ascension engine, allowing you to generate impressive 3D graphics. Originally, the title was to be published at the end of 2001. However, work on the Star Leader was suspended a few months before the planned release.
