Sea Wolves
Sea Wolves is an independently developed, free-scrolling arcade shooter
published both in retail and online distribution channels. The basic concept
is somewhat Waterworld-ish; the world has been mostly flooded, and now
treasure hunters compete for whatever they can get. Much shooting ensues as
everyone tries to keep everyone else from getting the treasure. The goal of
the game is to find and destroy a heavily defended enemy fortress somewhere in
each of the levels.
The player’s ship also has some stats, which will influence the ship’s
performance in movement speed, firepower, and damage tolerance. The basic
stats are defined by choosing a combination of a ship captain and ship type
and can be upgraded using the points gained by destroying enemies.
The pacing of the gameplay is in parts somewhat reminiscent of Serious Sam,
with large amounts of enemies basically going for all-out confrontation with
the player, whose task it becomes to out-maneuver his enemies. The shoot’em’up
part of the game is spiced up a bit by the fact that the player actually needs
to manually fire the cannons available on his ship in three different
directions using three different buttons.
