Music making, made easy. ToneStone is a brand-new musical creativity platform where anyone and everyone can create music. Brought to you from the minds behind Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Left 4 Dead.
## About This Game
The ToneStone platform combines easy tools, countless sounds, and applied game
mechanics to enable interactive musical experiences. You don’t need to know
anything about music to get started — just jump into ToneStone to access
tools and sounds that help you create music quickly and easily.
ANYONE AND EVERYONE CAN MAKE MUSIC. INCLUDING YOU.
Our mission is to empower a global community to create and share music. We
believe music creativity and collaboration should be open to everyone — even
if you don’t have traditional musical skills or knowledge.
TONESTONE RIGHT NOW
Right now ToneStone Studio is in its earliest stages — but there’s still a
lot you can do.
You can make music, whether it’s just for fun, for a project, or
* Create license-free music using our simple tools and sound decks.
* Record yourself singing or playing instruments, with layering and overdubbing.
* Share your creations to the ToneStone Discord community
* Export your creations to MP3 to share on other platforms.
You can also:
* Grab songs from ToneStone’s Discord server to remix.
* Step through ToneStone’s Skill Sessions to learn the basics of composition and production.
* Make custom decks using 100s of our free samples.
THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING
We’ve got big plans. Like more ways to create music, expanded sharing and
collaboration capabilities, not to mention new progression and achievement
experiences, plus modding opportunities. We believe we’ve barely begun to
incorporate the many ways in which ToneStone will deliver fun, immersive
creative experiences.
We’ll be releasing new features and content regularly, and we also know that
our early community is going to drive our roadmap decisions. Which brings us
to our next point…
FEEDBACK IS VERY WELCOME
Right now we think ToneStone Studio is good, but we think it could be great.
We learned a long time ago that the best ideas come from the community, and
that’s exactly why we wanted to open up ToneStone to enthusiastic beta users
who will be brutally honest about what you love and what needs to be better.
Once you’ve started using ToneStone, please share your thoughts with us — we
love it when folks share feedback to Discord, but we also like feedback
surveys too.
CREATED BY TWO PEOPLE WHOSE PREVIOUS GAMES YOU KNOW WELL
Greg LoPiccolo and Tom Leonard first met while working together on Thief, as
Project Director and Lead Programmer respectively. Thief established stealth
as a core mechanic, and has been used by countless games since Thief’s release
in 1998.
Greg then went to Harmonix Music Systems and led the teams that pioneered U.S.
music games, including FreQuency, Amplitude, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Even
though these games were hugely successful, Greg always believed there was even
greater potential for music and gaming.
Tom played key roles at Valve, shipping Half-Life 2, building Steam, and
leading the Left 4 Dead team. Based on his experiences with Left 4 Dead, Tom
developed a strong belief in the power of User Generated Content (UGC) and
player-driven platforms.
In 2019, Tom and Greg reconnected, and developed a shared vision of a music
media platform, driven by user energy and creativity, and using game design
concepts to bring music creativity within reach for a new generation of
creators. By combining music with gameplay, on the scale of a platform with
endless UGC possibilities, ToneStone is designed to bring musical creativity
to all of you who have music in you, and want a better way to express it.
Tom and Greg are both ridiculously excited about the promise of ToneStone, and
they can’t wait to let you try it out.
