Skippy’s Revenge
Taking as its point of departure a scene in the 1985 movie The Toxic Avenger
in which “Skippy” (played by D. J. Calvitto), a nice, innocent boy out on a
nocturnal bike ride, gets deliberately knocked down and run over by boorish
joy-riding youths… this game asks the burning “What if…” question: could
his gooshy remains be scraped off the asphalt and the spark of life blazed
back into them, what would life be like for this broken child in the flower of
life, never again to walk, let alone ride his precious bicycle. Would he nurse
his grudge or learn in time to forgive his aggressors?
We all know there wouldn’t be much of a game if the latter was the case, so
here instead his simmering remains are installed into a modified sit-down lawn
mower, dubbed his “deathbuggy”, which he uses to mulch no-good neo-Nazi punks
as steered by the player at the arrow keys.
