Powerpuff Girls Learning Challenge 2: Princess Snorebucks
_The Powerpuff Girls Learning Challenge #2 : Princess Snorebucks_ is an
edutainment title featuring the super-powered children from Townsville USA.
In this game the spoiled Princess Morebucks wants to be the heroine of
Townsville. She tricks the Powerpuff girls by sending them a bedtime music box
that sounds great and certainly helps them get to sleep but once they are
asleep the music changes trapping the girls in their nightmares and rendering
them unable to wake up. The player enters each of the nightmares and solves
puzzles to earn wake-up points. Solving puzzles also unlocks printable items,
pictures to colour in, dot-to-dot puzzles etc for the player to print off.
Each Powerpuff girls has her own nightmare. Buttercup’s nightmare is called
‘Fuzzy Flower Fractions’ and is maths based. Bubbles’ garden has been dug up
by Fuzzy Lumpkins and as Buttercup it’s the player’s job to solve problems
about fractions in order to replant the garden. The player is given a
fraction, say 6/8, and a flower. They must select a picture from the notebook
that divides the flower bed into eighths and them plant six of the portions
with the correct flower.
‘Escapade en Español!’ is Bubble’s nightmare. Here the Gangreen Gang have
hidden acorns so that the squirrels in the park cannot reach them. The nuts
are in piñatas and though the squirrels know which one they cannot get their
nuts back. They spell the word in Spanish for the player who, as Bubbles,
strikes the appropriate piñata until the nuts fall out.
This leaves Blossom’s nightmare, ‘Roach Coach Reading!’ Blossom keeps a diary
and Roach Coach has sent his cockroaches to destroy it. On each page they have
rearranged the words and it’s the players job to put them back into the
correct order in a sliding puzzle game while at the same time bashing any
roaches that attempt to mix the words up once more.
There are five levels of difficulty in each puzzle set and the player can
progress through these sequentially or the game can tune the difficulty level
to the player. Each game has a replayable introductory video sequence with
worked examples that explain how to proceed. A progress chart shows how well
the player is performing.
The player must collect ten wake-up points from each activity before the girls
can be awakened. To awake them the player must match pieces of music to
overload and destroy the music box. This is therefore called the ‘Music Box
Match’ game, the player must complete this game before they can proceed.
The final section of the game, ‘Dynamic Damage Control’, is to clean up
Townsville and stop all the monsters and villains who have been running out of
control while the girls have been asleep. throughout this part of the game the
player will hit red stop lights and must answer a question before they are
allowed to proceed with the clean up. This part of the game uses the keyboard
to direct the girls around a map of the town.
