Mysterious Stones
In yet another video game paying (unofficial) tribute to the Indiana Jones
franchise, Dr. John (or Dr. Kick, depending on which version you’re playing)
journeys to a series of ancient crypts around the world in search of lost
treasure. His explorations take him to such mysterious places as the Andes,
Easter Island and Egypt: in each location, our illustrious explorer will have
to infiltrate the catacombs, discover the treasure room, snag one of the
artifacts, escape the compound as quickly as possible and arrive safely at his
trusty biplane waiting outside.
Armed with a pistol, a powerful kick and a bird on his shoulder, the good
doctor must choose his path through the maze of rooms, packed with curious
creatures and troves of treasure. Most items are hidden inside the titluar
mysterious stones, which litter the chambers and must be shattered by kicking
them: this sends them rolling forward, and they may ricochet off other stones
to cause a chain reaction (in a manner similar to Technos’ earlier Eggs
games).
The clock is ticking, and tarrying too long may have unfortunate side effects,
such as whole rooms being flooded with nasty pools of lava. The intrepid
archeologist must clear the crypt before 8:00am – if he manages to escape with
a treasure item, he proceeds to have it appraised, which may lead to large
score bonuses or to utter disappointment, depending on its value.
