## Description

_Jane Austen’s Estate of Affairs_ is a hidden-object adventure game where the
player takes on a role of Christiana Austen, a niece of Jane Austen, a
renowned novelist. The estate is going through some hard times, and Christiana
is set to try and find the missing novel of her Aunt that will help with the
money problem. But she is not greeted well by the estate’s residents or its
staff. The game focuses on many aspects of Jane Austen’s life featuring
excerpts from her famous novels as well as locations from the period such as
the Chawton House.

The game is hidden-object in nature, meaning the player traverses various
locations and activates hidden-object mini-games by clicking at the glowing
areas. Hidden objects are either found by name or shape, and may sometimes
require interaction with other objects to reveal the hidden objects that are
not visible on the screen at the beginning. Beside the hidden-object gameplay
and free movement between locations, the game also features items inventory
which can be locked to stay on screen or appear on mouse over near the bottom
of the screen. Various objects can either be found lying out in the open or
retrieved by completing hidden-object scenes. Very often the player will have
to traverse through available locations and collecting objects which in turn
will open new ares or locks at other locations and let player retrieve another
useful objects which may be the goal or just another key for yet another lock
someplace else.

Cut-scenes and dialogues feature full voice-acting with lip-syncing even
though character portraits themselves are static 2D artworks. Graphics uses
both 3D pre-rendered scenes and 2D graphics art. The game uses unorthodox
resolution when played in window mode (somewhere between 800×600 and
1024×768), but in full-screen mode stretches to desktop size resolution in
either widescreen mode or keeping its 4:3 aspect ratio with black sides. There
are three difficulty game modes available, easy, normal, and hard, which
mainly focus on whether the hints are available, how fast they recharge, and
if hotspots are more vividly marked on the screen.
