## Description
_Dread Mac Farlane_ is the first adaptation of the French comic book of the
same name by the original author, Marion Poinsot. Developed using the AGS
engine, it was later surpassed in length, graphics and design through a second
reworking with the same title.
The game tells the story of the young girl Dread Mac Farlane from her
childhood through her journey to become a pirate. Unlike the later game, the
story is entirely told in chronological order. Gameplay is shown from a
tilted, almost top-down view, and shown from a larger distance. The visual
style resembles those of anime RPG Maker games, especially since most of the
graphics originate from that kit. Puzzles are largely inventory-based, but
there is only one icon for all actions, lowering the difficulty although some
pixel-hunting is required.
The story is adapted from the first album in the comic book series, _La Carte
d’Estrechez_. In between gameplay sessions, panels from the original comic
book are used to further tell the story. Other graphics and music are largely
borrowed from other games.
A certain amount of puzzles and most of the character return in the second
reworking, although most sequences are entirely new and some are also unique
for this version of the game. The protagonist Dread can die at several
instances throughout the game and all of the content is in French.
