Battlezone is probably the first FPS in the history of electronic entertainment on a PC. The player plays the role of the driver of a futuristic tank, who is sent to an alien planet with a mission to destroy enemy vehicles.
The action of the game is observed from the perspective of the first person, sitting in the cabin of the vehicle. The player has the ability to move forwards and backwards as well as to rotate the turret of the tank left and right. The location of enemy units is indicated by the radar at the top of the screen. The rules of the game are simple – you have to destroy all the enemy tanks appearing on the horizon before they can do the same with us. We have a few “live” in reserve – if we lose all of them, the game is over.
As befits a good conversion from the machine, the PC Battlezone is not much different from the original. Simple vector graphics (without fillings) and the poverty of sounds can make you smile today, but in the years when the game was most successful, it was a technological wonder. Battlezone is an interesting proposition for fans of fast action. Additional possibilities in the form of a game of two persons (in turns) and different levels of difficulty, effectively improve its advantages.
