Prepared for the Xbox Live Indie Games Ashlands: Retribution tries to refresh the genre of arcade shooters, in which players aim to stay alive on the board for as long as possible. It is distinguished from similar titles by, among others, RPG elements.
The story tells the story of a wanderer Sam, who is left to death on the unfriendly planet Seizonrenda. A man accidentally finds a UMI spacecraft, the crew of which died in unexplained circumstances. He decides to use it for his last trip. History is related to the one presented in the book Ashlands: Mind of the Mencist.
The game is based on the struggle for survival on a board full of obstacles. The action is shown from above and allows you to observe the current position of the vehicle and the asteroids orbiting the planet. The aim of the game is to destroy everything around and stay alive for as long as possible. The distinguishing feature of Ashlands: Retribution is the RPG features added by the authors. The task of the players is to manage the energy that the ship uses to shoot missiles at dangerous cosmic rocks. Destruction of each of them allows to replenish the deposits of power, which can be used to eliminate further targets.
Ashlands: Retribution is also distinguished by the way in which the board is presented compared to competing games. The clashes take place against the background of the planet Seizonrenda, around which the ship Sama moves. Thus, the action does not take place against a 2D background as in other shooters of this type. In contrast to many of them, this title also allows you to continue playing with previously acquired energy resources after a possible failure.
