Andromi is an adventure game (think Monkey Island or The Walking Dead Game, kind of) focusing on dialogue and exploration. It takes place roughly 200 years in the future, after sudden technological advancements and the discovery of other inhabitable planets have lead to a mass exodus of Earth, with most of the planet’s population having relocated to distant alien planets and a network of space colonies over the last two centuries. Now Earth is a pretty quiet place, its towns noticeably emptier and its landscapes littered with monuments to the space age.
You’ll be viewing this world through the eyes of the two title characters.
Andromeda is a cheerful robotic deer designed by the esteemed Dr. Margaret Beaumont. Originally designed for space exploration, Andromeda was instead left behind on Earth for reasons that no one will explain to her. She’s been spending her time helping out around Lyndhurst Industries, the company where Dr. B works, but Andromeda’s getting tired of being cooped up in the lab 24/7. She was literally made for adventure, after all. So she comes up with a brilliant plan. Why doesn’t she just explore the world–well, okay, maybe just her home state–and make herself useful by solving problems for the random strangers she meets along the way? That’s kind of similar to what she was designed for. Sort of. If Andromeda’s stuck on Earth, she might as well see more of it and help make it a nicer place. And she’s not going to let her tendency to get in over her head with seemingly simple situations get the better of her this time. She’s gonna prove to everyone that she’s totally smart and competent and not just a childish daydreamer. What could possibly go wrong?
Naomi is a 20-year-old trans girl from the big city, and she also happens to be a dog. After getting in a car accident a little over two years back, Naomi’s legs were amputated from the knees down and replaced with mechanical prosthetics. She took this as an opportunity to run away from home and beg for a paid internship while getting her new legs at Lyndhurst Industries. Somehow, this plan worked. People generally see Naomi as a sarcastic slacker who’d rather screw around all the time than make anything of herself, but she knows that she has more potential than that. At least, she hopes she does. She just doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life yet. So when her robotic girlfriend suddenly announces that she’s going to drop everything and run off on some meandering adventure, Naomi naturally decides that she has to tag along. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be fun. Hanging out with Andromeda is usually fun. Or maybe she’ll just have to keep Andromeda from getting them killed. Either way, it’s an excuse to get away from work for a while.
The game will hopefully release sometime towards the end of 2015. A demo will be available before then
