Hollywood Pictures II
Hollywood Pictures 2 is a managerial simulation were the player takes care
of a company which produces movie pictures. The first step to produce a movie
is to choose a genre and to buy or write a script. The latter is only
advisable when the player already reached a positive reputation. Then he needs
to hire a movie crew through agencies, e.g. actors, directors, make-up,
musicians or a stunt team. Every person has a competence level in different
stats which influences the reception of the movie but of course also their
price. They have also genre preferences so a great actor who is specialised in
action movies may not be the best choice for a comedy. Other than that the
player also can lend money or construct buildings on the studio environment
which help speed up certain processes.
The game also features a basic scene editor where the player can plan scenes
for the movie. There he builds the background, insert the actors and their
clothes and assigns pre-defined motion sequences to them. Now all there is
left do to is to start the production and wait until the shooting is finished
(which can be delayed due to random events) and then adding music and sound to
the scenes. The game judges the movie and the results is responsible for the
critical reception and the number of viewers which in turn results in revenue
and studio reputation. The earned money can be than reinvested to make even
better movies.
The game time is regulated with a clock which can be sped up or stopped. When
starting a game the player can choose one of three difficulty levels and one
of three five goals, e.g. winning an academy award or producing an all-time-
classic. Reaching that goal doesn’t end the game but gives a boost to the
studio reputation.
