To fish in Animal Crossing: Wild World, you need a fishing rod. Then, you need to go a body of water and look for a fish-shaped shadow. That is a fish. To catch the fish, you need to cast your fishing line so that the bobber is in front of the fish. If the fish sees it, the fish will swim toward the bobber and nibble on it. When the fish bites, the bobber will plop under water. That is when you should pull up the rod. If successful, you will catch the fish!
You can purchase a fishing rod in Tom Nook’s store. Another way to get the fishing rod is to talk to Tortimer during the Fishing Tourney without a fishing rod in your pocket. Tortimer will give you a free fishing rod so that you can participate in the Fishing Tourney.
Finding Fish
Fish live in water. Your town probably has a beach, a river, a waterfall, and some ponds. Different types of fish are available in the different bodies of water. If a fish is in the water, you will be able to see it as a dark, fish-shaped shadow that is swimming around.
Casting your fishing line
To cast your fishing line, look in your pockets and drag the fishing rod to the picture of your person. This will equip the fishing rod.
When you press the A button while holding the rod, you will cast the fishing line in front of you, a fixed distance away. If you are not standing close enough to the water for the bobber to land in it, your person will frown and pull the fishing line back. But if you aimed correctly, the bobber will land in the water. You can also tap a spot with your stylus where you want the bobber to fall.
Getting the fish to bite
When fishing, you need to cast your line in such a way that the bobber lands on the water in a spot where the fish will see it. The bobber needs to land fairly close to the fish, and somewhere close to the fish’s face (the rounded part is its face, and the pointy part is the tail). If the fish can see the bobber, it will swim up to it and start nibbling on it. You might have to try multiple times before you cast the bobber somewhere where the fish can see it.
What to do when the fish bites
When the fish takes the bait, there will be a splash of water around the bobber, and you will hear a distinctive “plop” sound. When this happens, tap the screen with your stylus or press A as quickly as you can to pull up the fishing line. If you pull it up in time, the you will catch the fish! However, if you’re not quick enough, the fish might get away. Also, if you pull up the fishing line before the fish takes the bait, the fish will swim away and disappear.
Bug Catching
You have probably seen some bugs crawling on the ground, flying through the air, or hanging out on trees. You can catch these bugs and sell them to Tom Nook, donate them to the museum, keep them in your house as pets, or just release them back into the wild.

How to get a net
To catch bugs in Animal Crossing: Wild World, you need to purchase a net from Tom Nook’s store, or, alternatively, you can get a free net from Tortimer during the Bug Off Tournament. You can get more than one free net, even, as long as you don’t have a net in your pockets when you talk to Tortimer. Learn how to get a Golden Bug Net.
How to use a net
The net is a fairly simple tool to use: when the net is still in your pockets, simply drag the net onto the picture of your person to equip it. Then, you can press A to swing the net. Alternatively, you can tap your person with the stylus while not viewing the contents of your pockets. This will also make your character swing the net.
The net will swing forward until it hits something, be it the ground, a tree, a body of water, or even a villager (although villagers tend to get mad at you if you hit them with your net).
If there is a bug in front of you, you can move your character into a position that will make the net land on the bug when you swing it. If you have aimed correctly, you will catch the bug when you swing the net. If you have not aimed correctly, the bug will probably get scared away. If you do not scare it away, but you didn’t manage to catch it, then you can keep trying while the bug keeps walking or flying around.

How to catch bugs on trees
A bug that hangs out on a tree will just be sitting right there on the tree trunk, maybe moving around a little bit, but generally just hanging out. Bugs that like trees will always be on the front of the trunk. They never hide on the back of the trunk where you can’t see them.
It is fairly easy to catch a bug that lives on a tree. Just walk slowly up to the tree so that you are close to the tree trunk, but far enough away that you do not scare the bug away. Make sure to position yourself in such a way that the net will hit the tree trunk. If you are not close enough, the net will hit the ground, scaring away the bug.List of bugs
How to catch bugs that live on the water
I am pretty sure that there is only one type of bug in Animal Crossing: Wild World that lives on the water. To catch this type of bug, you need to stand at the edge of the water, as close as possible. Then, position yourself such that you are facing the bug. When the bug comes close to you, and you think that the net will land on the bug when you swing it, go ahead and swing the net. If you did it correctly, you will catch the bug. List of bugs
How to catch bugs that fly through the air
The difficult part about catching bugs that fly through the air is that you need to be quick when you swing the net. You have to swing the net at just the right moment, or the bug will fly out of range of the net before the net catches it. Just run after the bug, and swing the net when you think that you are positioned to be able to catch the bug when you swing the net. Sometimes flying bugs will fly over the surface of a body of water, becoming unreachable. This is only temporary, so just be patient and wait for the bug to hopefully come back. List of bugs
How to catch bugs that crawl on the ground
The method to catch a bug crawling on the ground is somewhat similar to the method for catching a flying bug, but it is a little bit less difficult than that. Just follow the crawling bug and swing your net when you think that the net will land on it and catch it. How to catch bugs that crawl around on flowers
Occasionally you will find bugs that crawl on flowers. You actually will not encounter this type if there are no flowers in your town. To catch a bug that is crawling around on some flowers, just walk up to the flowers slowly (you can scare the bug away if you get too close, or walk too quickly), then position yourself to make the net fall on the bug. Just be aware that if your net lands directly on top of the flowers, you might destroy that bunch of flowers, so be careful. List of bugs
How to catch bugs that hide under rocks
There are some types of bugs that hide under rocks. Sometimes you don’t know about them until you see a villager staring at the rock. The way to get a bug out from under a rock is to hit the rock with a hard object, like a shovel or an axe. The bug will jump out from under the rock and start crawling away. The tricky part here is that you must quickly switch to your net so that you can catch the bug. That task usually takes long enough that the bug might run off the screen or behind something, and it might disappear. Keep an eye on the bug to watch where it goes while you switch to the net. How to catch bugs that hide underground (but not under rocks)
There are some types of bugs that hide under the ground. The only ways to find out about those bugs is to either hear them making noise and figure out where they are hiding, or find a villager who is staring at the ground.
It can be difficult to figure out exactly where an underground bug is hiding, just based on sound. The key is that the sound will get louder the closer you are to the bug. So, to find where the bug is, if you hear the sound, just walk around until the sound is as loud as possible. If you are in the correct place, the sound gets quieter no matter which direction you walk in. That means that you are standing very close to where the bug is underground. Start digging holes with your shovel until you see the bug hop out. Then, don’t bother with covering up the hole; it takes too long. Just switch to your net as quickly as you can while watching the upper screen to see where the bug goes, then run after the bug and catch it like you would any other crawling bug. List of bugs
How to catch bugs that hide in trees
For bugs that hide in trees, the only ways to know that the bug is there are to either shake the tree and see it come out, or see a villager staring at the tree. For bees, please read the separate article about catching bees (which I have not written yet). For other tree-based bugs, just equip your net as quickly as possible and swing it at the bug. How to Catch a Bee
Step one: put your net in your pocket
Having your net in your pocket will help you make sure that you’re prepared to act quickly when there are bees to catch.
Step two: go around shaking trees
Continue shaking trees. You will eventually find one with a bee hive in it.
Step three: Run away and make the bees go off course for a moment
As soon as the bee hive falls, start running. Then, when the bee swarm gets really close to you, quickly change direction. If you time it correctly, the bee swarm will keep going in the direction that you had been going in before, and then they will briefly stop. As soon as this happens, go into your pockets.
Step four: Equip the net and catch the bees
While in your pockets, equip the net as quickly as you can. You only have a moment before the bees start chasing you again. Once your net is equipped, exit your pockets and watch the bees very carefully. You should be able to turn and face them and catch them with the net. If not, run away and change direction again, then catch them as described.

Furniture colors are not always obvious just by looking at a piece of furniture, so it helps to have a good reference handy to find out what colors your pieces of furniture are.

For good Feng Shui, you should put yellow items on left side of each room in your house. Yellow items on the left increase the amount of money you get from neighbors. Put green items along the nearest wall of each room, and red items along the right side of each room, for good luck with finding rare furniture.

Yes, except for the attic. Every room in your house that you can put furniture into contributes to your Feng Shui.

What does Red and Green Feng Shui do?
If you have good Red and Green Feng Shui (that is, many red and green furniture items in the red and green areas of each room), then you can expect to find items in Nook’s store that are more rare than the usual items you see in his store.
What does Yellow Feng Shui do?
Yellow Feng Shui influences the money that you get from and give to your neighbors. More Yellow Feng Shui will mean that you get more money from villagers as rewards for tasks, more money when villagers buy things from you, and villagers will ask you for less money when they try to sell you things.
Your House: The Basics
Your house in Animal Crossing: Wild World is where you save the game, sleep, decorate, listen to music, entertain guests, and so on. This guide will outline the basics of everything you should know about your house.
The Mortgage
When Tom Nook gives you your house, he isn’t really giving it to you. What he’s really giving you is a huge mortgage to pay off. But if you do pay it off, your house gets expanded into a bigger house… and you get a brand new, bigger mortgage. Eventually, though, after paying off loan after loan, you reach the biggest house, pay one final loan, and then that’s it: you officially own the home.
The Rooms
Your house starts out having one small room, as well as the attic where the bed and phone are. As you pay off your mortgages, you get rooms added to the house. After paying off the first mortgage, your one room gets bigger, then after that, each mortgage adds a new room. There’s a left wing, right wing, back room, and second floor that eventually get added.
The Furniture
Without furniture, your house will look pretty dull. Therefore, you’ll need to go to Tom Nook’s shop and buy some furniture. You might also be able to get furniture by popping balloons that float across the sky, or by shaking trees, by sending letters to neighbors, just to name a few examples. However you do it, get some furniture and customize your house. If you sign up with the HRA, you will get rewards for having good interior design. There is also the secret art of Feng Shui, which provides certain benefits if you put your furniture in places that give you good Feng Shui. If you master it, you will have good luck, and will get rewards from the HRA for good Feng Shui in your house.
The Guests
Sometimes, a villager will ask you if he or she can come over to your house to visit. This improves your friendship with that neighbor. But be sure to be in your house and not blocking the entryway at the time that you schedule for your neighbor to come over, or the neighbor will later tell you that he or she came over, but you weren’t there. That isn’t good for your friendship.
There are occasionally events like the Flea Market that will cause your neighbors to randomly enter your house.
The TV
One of the things you can do in your house is watch TV. Maybe it’s not that exciting, but it does have different shows on at different times. If you catch the weather forecast, you can find out what the weather will be like.
The Roaches
If you haven’t played Animal Crossing in a while, your house will be filled with lovely swarms of roaches! You will have to run after them and step on them to kill them, or otherwise they will just keep scurrying around, which is gross.
