## Description
**Move beyond counting by 1's to more efficient strategies with number!**
Your child can now count objects up to a high number, perhaps 50 or even higher. Now what? The mathematical skill of subitizing is "instantly seeing how many." The tasks in this app are designed to develop this skill by flashing a graphic of objects on screen for a limited amount of time before vanishing. This constraint makes counting all objects a much less efficient strategy for the child. The learner must invent strategies that help him/her to see quantity in more flexible ways. This activity fosters development of number sense by facilitating progression towards this flexibility with number. In particular, children decompose and compose numbers in various ways. For example, seeing 13 as 6 + 6 + 1 or 5 + 5 + 3. Subitizing also helps develop the ideas of addition and subtraction.
