You could adhere to a single collagen strand 10.000 additional strands and nevertheless the first would not tear up. With such a stable net, the cancer cells cannot easily slip through. That's why they produce these red collagenases that move to the collagen fibers and dissolve away various small particles, such as lysine. Thus, the collagen strand loses its stability, breaks up and the whole collagen net becomes holey. And then even the much larger cancer cells can slip through as through a perforated fence. This is exactly what we want to avoid!
