The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-Earth is another of the mobile applications targeted at Android devices, which were created on the wave of popularity of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy Lord of the Rings. This time we are dealing with an uncomplicated free-to-play RPG with elements of strategy and collectible card game. The company Kabam, known for its many best-selling browser productions, is responsible for its creation.
The essence of the game is to create a team consisting of iconic characters known from J.R.R.R. Tolkien’s trilogy and participation in subsequent battles with more and more demanding opponents. Starting the game we choose one of the following races: people, elves, dwarves or hobbits. As we progress, we are successively unlocking and recruiting newer and newer characters from the list of over 100 heroes, including Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Frodo. Each of them, of course, has its own unique skills, and we gain additional bonuses for recruiting two heroes with complementary skills. For example, a team made up of hobbits alone will result in a powerful combo, which can reverse the fate of more than one skirmish.
The game allows you to create three independent teams, which you will use depending on the type of opponent you meet. Playing alone, we participate in the campaign, set in further regions of Middle-earth, such as Eriador, Gondor, Rohan or Mordor. In each location there are several enemies waiting for us, and finally a powerful boss. The fights take place automatically, and the result is determined primarily by the strength of our team. As the battles continue, its members of course gain experience, which in turn improves their skills. We can also increase the coefficients of heroes using various power-ups, available in the game store for real cash. If we decide not to use the micropayment, however, it may turn out that the strength of the team is not enough to defeat the mighty boss and in order to improve it, we will have to repeat the already won duels many times.
Like Kabam’s browser-based productions, the Legends of Middle-Earth has the opportunity to take part in PvP duels with live opponents. They take place in special arenas, and their result of course also influences the experience and skills of our team. In terms of binding, the Android version of the game is at an average level, typical for modern browser MMORPGs, although the character models have been made in detail and we can easily recognize familiar faces from Tolkien’s trilogy.
